Hello everyone! I hope you’re having a wonderful week so far!

Today I’m on Pinkfresh Studio blog with this floral card featuring the Bloom & Brew Press Plate and a fun spotlight coloring technique. I spotlighted the image using the Nested Hexagons Blanket Stitched dies to match this month’s Pinkfresh Studio Challenge – Geometric Genius. I also followed the challenge color palette and watercolored the image with Premium Liquid Watercolors.

To start I pressed the image from theBloom & Brew Press Plate onto Premium Watercolor Paper using Detail Black Ink, then repeated the same process to create two pressed panels.

Then I watercolored the image on one panel using Premium Liquid Watercolors in the following colors: Bubble Gum, Clementine, and Sunshine for the flowers, for the teapot, and the cup; Citron, Mint, and Atlantis for the leaves; Citron and Sunshine for the tablecloth; and Aquamarine and Seaside for the background. I kept the coloring loose by adding a light first layer and dropping in deeper color while the first layer was still wet for smoother blending.

After watercoloring was done, I die cut three hexagons in different sizes from this colored panel using the Nested Hexagons Blanket Stitched Dies.

I adhered the second pressed panel onto a white card base, then overlaid it with the three painted hexagons, carefully aligning the stamped outlines to create a spotlighting effect.

The sentiment from the Petal Poise Stamp Set was stamped in Detail Black Ink onto white cardstock and die cut with the coordinating die. I also cut a banner fromPremium Watercolor Paper using the Basic Banners Die and watercolored it in Citron. I first attached the banner with foam tape to the card, and then added the sentiment on top.

To finish off the card I scattered a few Leaf and Champagne Clear Drops.

Wet on wet coloring for smooth blending: For soft, seamless shading, paint a light first layer and drop in richer color while the area is still wet to let the pigments blend naturally.
Spotlighting with smaller dies is a great way to add interest to a one-layer design. This time, I used hexagon dies to match our challenge theme!
