Hello everyone!

Today the first challenge of the new year has started at Seize the Birthday! This time around Barbara wants us to create a snowy background for our cards!

But as always any birthday themed projects are welcome in our gallery, if you don’t want to choose the Toppings Option!

I created a snowy scene using the sweet bird from Season’s Tweetings set (40-761) by Penny Black.

First I stamped the Season’s Tweetings image on a watercolor paper. I scribbled the stamp with the Tombow markers, spritzed clear water on it and stamped it onto the watercolor paper. I repeated the process until I was happy with the result. I then went over the image with a wet brush to blend the colors a bit.

I watercolored the background in purple, pink, teal and dark blue and ink blended the panel using DIs in similar colors. I white heat embossed the sentiment from Sprinkles and Smiles set (30-297) on the panel and cut it using the Looped Stackers die (51-631). Lastly I splattered white opaque ink on the panel. After the splatters were dry I foam mounted the panel on a white cardbase.

That was my DT card for the first challenge of this year! Please stop by Seize the Birthday blog for more inspiration from our Surprise Party Guest Julie Peddicord from Inking Along with Jules and my team mates!

I’d love to see your birthday projects in our gallery!

Thank you for stopping by!

Have a great day!

  1. This is so bright and beautiful TaeEun and love the shape of the mat and foam mounting it for dimension it looks great. I love your fairly soft background which lets the pretty bird on the holly and berry branch really stand out. A gorgeous card! x

  2. Wow! So beautiful! Of course, I am not surprised. You always rock it, girl! You are awesome!💜💜💜

  3. Oh gosh TaeEun, my snowy bird card does not even come close to being in the same category as your stunning card! You have captured such a magnificent wintry sky with your colors and I love your splatters and that beautiful bird! Happy New Year!

  6. Such a beautiful card! The bird and holly have just the right amount of definition – something I always lose when I try this particular technique. And then your background is bright and pretty, yet takes nothing away from the main image. Gorgeous!

  7. Ooohhh!! Gorgeous!! So colorful, and I love the snow falling gently in the scene. It feels like I got a glimpse of winter in the middle of winter! Spectacular card, TaeEun!
