Hello everyone!

It’s time for a new challenge at Seize the Birthday! The Toppings option for our 191st challenge is “Totally Tropical”.  But as always you may enter any birthday themed projects into our gallery, if you want!

First I thought of hibiscus or other tropical flowers. But when I was searching on Pinterest to get some inspiration, I saw some drawing of tropical leaves and decided to give it a try.

I drew some palm leaves on a corner of a watercolor paper and made an ocean scene behind the leaves using Ocean Free stamp set by The Ton. I white heat embossed the ocean, watercolored the ocean and the beach and wrote the words in the sand in darker brown.

The light aircraft and the banner from City Girls: Park Life set (The Ton) was stamped in gray and watercolored.  I cut them using the coordinating dies. The sentiment on the banner was from City Girls: Special Day set. I cut the colored panel using a die from Rectangle A2 Nested dies set (The Ton) and adhered it on a kraft cardbase. I then added the aircraft and the banner using foam tape.

I finished off the card by stamping the seagulls in black.

Is my card totally tropical 🙂 ? I hope I could inspire you with my card!

  1. Fabulous tropical card TaeEun. Love the scene you made with all the great elements, especially the writing in the sand, and the ocean. I like the way you have the palm leaves over the scene, wow, can’t believe you drew them. I thought they were a stamp.

  2. Looks like paradise! Such a clever idea to write in the sand, and the scene is beautifully coloured, Cathy x

  3. This is such a wow card! Your hand-drawn elements fit perfectly with the stamped ones for a perfect tropical scene! (And now I want to go there for _my_ birthday! :D)

  4. The fact that our theme is tropical and you didn’t go the route of flowers was totally a surprise to me. However, the card is so outstanding it didn’t matter one bit. The scene you have created is pure perfection. I especially love the ocean and waves. The way you did the sentiment in the sand was so clever too. I feel like I might as well just say the entire card is outstanding.., cause it is! I get so happy and inspired when I come by your blog!

  5. OMG! I’m there! Your painted leaves are perfect, i love the little plane flying by, and the Happy Birthday in the sand is inspired! Thanks for taking me to the tropics 🌴🌞

  6. You drew the leaves?!?! You never cease to amaze me. This card is so warm, inviting and beautiful. A perfect tropical scene.

  7. This pretty beach scene just makes you long to go there TaeEun, and I love the white surf on the waves, and the bi-plane flying above, with a few birds too, both look great. The leaves hanging down frame it perfectly too. x
