Hello everyone! Hope you’re having a great week so far!

The Flower Challenge for March has started today! We are going to have a color challenge: Shades of Purple

This challenge is sponsored by Beccy’s Place with a prize of a $10 AU gift code for any digital stamps in her online shop www.beccysplace.com! I’m using one of her digital stamp called Cherry Blossom that she generously provided!

I printed the Cherry Blossom branch image on a watercolor paper and watercolored it in various shades of purple. I also colored the background in dark purple.

I used some of my favorite purple watercolors. I colored the flowers first using Winsor Violet and Quinacridone Purple and added the next layer of Helio Purple which is rather close to magenta or pink. I kept the tip of the petals mostly uncolored for maximal contrast to the dark background which I colored in Red Violet and Bright Violet. For the branch, leaves and the darkest part of the background I used Moonglow by Daniel Smith. It is a beautiful purplish gray color.

After the panel was dry I white heat embossed the sentiment from Smiles (30-852) set by Penny Black and splattered white ink on the panel. I added some dots with a glitter pen as stamen. And my one layer card was done!

  2. Oooohhh…this card is amazing! Normally, I am not a fan of purple, but your extraordinary artistry made me a believer!!!

  3. This is such a beautiful image and you have used the purple tones so brilliantly on this cherry blossom and the fabulous background, and looks perfect with the branch and leaves without colour. A gorgeous card TaeEun. x

  4. Your card is breath-taking, TaeEun!! Love the gorgeous deep colours of the background with you delicate flowers. Always inspired by your amazing talent. xx

  5. This has just blown me away, I love the soft wash of colour round the blooms, I thought you had down a watercolour background and fussy cut the flowers but to have done this beautiful watercolour around the blooms that have been printed is just stunning.. Another card I would love to make but I think if I succeeded to get it to look this good I would frame it. You are always amazing me xx hugs Aileen

  6. TaeEun, I’m blown away by the deep, rich colors on your card, that background is so intense that makes the sweet Cherry Blossom branch just jump off the page.
Love the way you highlighted the centers of these sweet flowers, looks like little points of light.
    Stay healthy and safe.
