Hello everyone! I hope your week is off to a great start!
I’m on the Pinkfresh Studio blog with a hello card featuring the Wildflower Notes stencil set from the Quiet Moments Release.
This stencil set creates a full A2 floral background, and I especially love the three larger flowers in the design. I treated those as the main focal points of the card, keeping the smaller flowers soft and subtle while coloring the larger blooms in more vibrant shades.
I also brought back a technique I haven’t used in quite a while: a camouflaged sentiment. For this, I used the Jody Lowercase Alpha die set. Large alphabet dies work beautifully for this technique. You cut the sentiment directly from the finished panel and place the letters back into their original positions with added dimension, allowing them to blend into the background while still remaining noticeable.
I started by stenciling the Wildflower Notes design onto baby pink cardstock with the help of the Easyblend Grip Mat in the following colors.
– Stencil 1: Coral Reef, Apricot
– Stencil 2: Peony, Raspberry Bliss, Apricot und Coral Reef for the centers of the smaller flowers
– Stencil 3: Marigold, Doe (for the larger flowers)
– Stencil 4: Ocean Breeze (for the smaller flowers), Key Lime und Paradise (for the larger flowers)
* I added a touch of Calico White pigment ink to the centers of the flowers
* I stenciled the smaller flowers very lightly to create contrast and help the larger blooms stand out.
* I covered the areas I didn’t want to ink with scrap paper when blending two different shades through the same stencil.
Once the stenciling was complete, I die cut the panel with the largest die from the Dotted Nested Deckled Rectangles die set.
Next, I used the Jody Lowercase Alpha dies to cut the word “hello” directly from the finished floral panel. I die cut the same letters four more times from white cardstock and stacked them together, placing the colored letters from the original panel on top.
I then adhered the stenciled panel to a white card base and inlaid the stacked letters back into their original positions. This created the camouflaged sentiment effect, allowing the floral pattern to continue across the letters while still giving them dimension.
To add a little more detail, I used a white gel pen to add small dots to the petals and around the larger flowers. I also die cut a few small floral elements from white cardstock using the Fresh Florals and Flower Market dies and added three of them around the letters as accents.
Finally, I finished the card with six Ice Clear Drops for a subtle touch of shine.
Camouflaging is a fun technique to use when you want a sentiment or other element to remain subtle and integrated into the overall design. Because the letters carry the same pattern as the background, they don’t interrupt the floral flow, while the stacked layers still give them enough dimension to be noticed.
I love how even a simple stencil set can offer so many possibilities and inspire a variety of designs with a little creativity.
